Moving Out

yep. This little one is moving out. I’m an adult now. I’m no longer obliged to read the manual. I can decide what the acceptable level of clutter is in my room- which is now an apartment. I can get tattoos and drink beverages from behind the counter and hang festive decoration several months too early and get dangerous hobbies.
It’s going to be awesome.

Except none of the above is something I’d do. Well… sort of.

So, moving out. It’s an apartment on the first floor (or second floor, depending on if you’re English or American- basically it’s one floor up), a brisk walk away from the centre of Ghent. I’ve been very busy and it’s not completely finished yet – the lack of a couch, a table and chairs is still painfully obvious – but we have the basics. By which I mean that we have a cupboard dedicated to our favourite mugs, a cart for all of our tea and four large bookcases absolutely full of books.

It’s weird, living here. I’m slowly starting to call it home, but my parent’s place is also still home. Currently I’m referring to them as home and home-home. The place doesn’t quite feel like mine yet either, which makes me feel a bit restless. Luckily for me there’s been lots of things to do, like painting, sanding, fixing light fixtures, and assembling.
Which probably explains why I got a lumbago. Damn, but that motherfucker hurt. So much for dangerous hobbies.
So I had to take it easy for a bit. Which means I get bored- but hey! At least that means I get to write another blog post, so that means I’m easing some guilt off my consciousness… right? But yeah. Today I tried to keep busy with Pilates (because that’s a thing I do now, because my physiotherapist told me to) and then I went treasure-hunting in town, but then the rest of the time? Bored. Bored like Sherlock shooting at wallpaper. Can’t paint because of back things. Running out of things that amuse me on youtube. Laundry: done. I’ve already read for about 2 – 3 hours today. Festive Halloween decoration? Already hung (as of yesterday). Tea has been drunk, food has been cooked, and I feel like adulting is the most boring thing in the world.

Luckily I have a roommate now- they’ll be coming home in half an hour, and then I can tell them all about my boring day and listen to theirs. I love that we have very different work schedules so we see each other often, but not so often we want to scratch each other’s eyes out. That and they make for some social control so I get dressed and do dishes and don’t eat nothing but bugles and cheese.

PS: By the way, what is it with instructors in video workouts and their weird metaphors?
“One way to get in touch with your powerhouse is to imagine a band around your middle. Kind of like the feeling a girl gives you: It pulls everything in, gives you support, and it helps flattening your stomach.”
Yeah, you go girlfriend.
