The Notebook

The blog post that has absolutely nothing to do with the movie, and everything with the object.

I’ve always been writing silly things- on random pages which I bet was a pain for my mum to keep track of, with her heart-warming hermit qualities, or I doodled in my school books. By the time I was twelve I kept a shoebox at the foot of my bed in which I kept my diaries, a book I was writing (and never finished, will you look at that) a book of shadows because I believed I was a witch, and a bunch of feathers and apple seeds. No idea why those made it in the box.
When I went to boarding school and had to face long stretches of time in a study hall, I began writing more often, and keeping them in a large file. This is where the angsty poetry came in, about which I will never speak of again.
And then I became 18. It was a sunny day, and I was making my way to Ghent. I suddenly felt the urge to write, but I had nothing on me. I went into a shop which sold school supplies, and BAM! My very first real Notebook For Everything was bought.
I don’t use these notebooks as diaries. I draw in them, write poetry in them, when something is on my mind and I don’t want to forget, I write that down in them. Ideas for stories, things that are keeping me awake, or just ranting/writing when my emotions are misbehaving and I don’t know what to do with them. They are filled with lists, quick calculations and reminders. They get their place of honour on my bedside table.

They’re my personal therapist.

I wanted to do a blog post about notebooks because I recently started on my third notebook.
("Only your third in five years?" I hear you ask. Well, you should know that I still did/do the doodling on important papers, and I do have other notebooks for everything else. I’ve had a notebook for books, I recently made a new notebook for books I need to read, and I used to have a notebook in which I made the sketches for that children’s book I once made. I guess what I’m saying is- my doodling and random writing doesn’t limit itself to this one notebook.)
This was bittersweet, because it meant I had to shelve the notebook I’ve been using for two years and had come quite attached to, but it also meant that I could buy a brand new notebook, which is so damn exciting because empty pages just reek of potential.
Still- I want to offer you guys a look into my previous notebook, a privileged peek into the more innocent pages.

Being jealous of the boy in Extremely Loud and Incredibly close,
who knew himself so well he could sum himself up within the space of a business card.

I love my dreams.

Bucket lists!

trying my hand at fantasy maps

ranting!

movie script for that one video

art!

and even thinking of titles for this very blog

Goodnight notebook.
